His Excellency Tony Kranh, acting director of administration, deputy director of administration and senior administrative officers of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) on Friday afternoon 24 February 2023 paid a visit to Educational Broadcasting Cambodia (EBC) station located in Sangkat Boeung Tumpun, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh. The visit was warmly welcomed by H.E. Sok Puthyvuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the leaders of Educational Broadcasting Cambodia (EBC).
H.E. Sok Puthyvuth informed the ECCC delegations that the Educational Broadcasting Cambodia (EBC) is the first educational broadcasting institution in Cambodia to be supported by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Information with technical support from the Education Broadcasting Station (EBS) and financial assistance from the Ministry of Science and Information Technology (MSIT) of the Republic of Korea. He added that EBC’s vision is to “produce educational content and an online learning management system (Platform) for teaching students online through digital technology.” He stressed that this institution has made a significant contribution to reducing the gap in the education sector in Cambodia in line with the current Industrial Revolution 4.0.
H.E. Tony Kranh informed H.E. Sok Puthyvuth and his colleagues that the current visit of the ECCC delegation is to learn deeply about the capabilities and technology of the Educational Broadcasting Cambodia (EBC) for collaborating on the production of contents related to the trial of former senior leaders to educate the younger generations and the publics. He added that the ECCC intends to widely disseminate the ECCC archives of more than 3 million pages, disseminate and educate in the spirit of raising awareness of the judicial process, achievements, and legacy of the ECCC to the younger generation.
At the same time, Mr. Knut Rosandhaug, Deputy Director of the Office of Administration of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, also informed H.E. Sok Puthyvuth and his colleagues that the ECCC intends to train and establish educational programs for Cambodian teachers for helping them to understand clearly on the trial processing and be able to use the documents of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal for including in their classroom curriculum. He added that training and supporting teachers about the trial process in the ECCC is very important for the efficiency of education and the convey of KR historical knowledge to students.
The delegations of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal who accompanied H.E. Kranh Tony, Acting Director of Administration, included Mr. Knut Rosandhaug, Deputy Director of the Office of Administration, H.E. Thaung Socheat, senior executive officer of the ECCC, and three technical assistants.
